SD14 - THE FULL STORY

SD14 - THE FULL STORY

Written by John Lingwood, this book is the full history of the SD14.  One of the most intriguing features of the SD14 programme has been the interest it has elicited from shipping enthusiasts throughout the world.  It is an interest which began in the very earliest days and has been maintained over nearly 40 years and still shows no sign of weakening.

The phenomenal success of the project is the history enfolded in this book.  Not until 1984 was the 126th, and last, SD14 to be built at Sunderland completed, with the last British-built vessel of the design following two years later from Smith's Dock, Middlesbrough.  It was to be 1988, 20 years after the delivery of Nicola, first of the series, that the last 2 examples of this simple tramp ship design sailed away from their builder's shipyard in Rio de Janeiro, bringing up a grand total of 211 vessels built worldwide by the designer and its licensees.
