The paddlers, accustomed to conveying commuters and tourists around the Clyde resorts, found new duties far from home under the White Ensign. Their turbine consorts served as troopships and tenders, while some vessels remained at home to maintain essential ferry services to the islands.

Lavishly illustrated with images from the collection of the Imperial War Museum, this 32-page CRSC publication has been brought to fruition from the partially finished manuscript, draft notes, research material and correspondence of the late Peter Herriot, a former Club president, whose special area of interest was the 1939-45 war. Prior to his untimely death Peter passed his material to Ian Hall, whose commitment to the project has produced a publication of outstanding interest to ship enthusiasts and aficionados of naval and military history.
