At the outset the Rea Family business operations were of many facets and although the author has concentrated on the towing operations, mention of other aspects is made. Brief details of their colliers are included as a cameo in chapter one and a barge overview can be found in App 1. The Rea family name remained in use for many years after the 1919 acquisition by Wm. Cory & Son Ltd., but from 1970 until 1993 remained on the River Mersey, the name Cory having been introduced for the remainder of the group. Since then the Mersey fleet has succembed to the Cory name and full funnel markings. In more recent years investment has been made in conjuction with other partners up to a maximum holding of 50%, making the new concerns associates of Cory Ship Towage Ltd and/or Cory Towage Ltd. Those fleets have been included together with the subsidiary fleets in part 3 of the ship history section for completeness.
